Tarrant County Democratic Woman’s Club promotes economic justice and social progress for all people by assisting Democratic candidates at the local, state, and national level.
Our club was founded in 1928, making us the oldest grassroots organization of its kind in Texas.
We proudly support Democratic women seeking election to public office, as a local chapter of Texas Democratic Women, the women’s caucus for Texas Democrats.
Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings, events and service projects. Our regular monthly meeting is usually held on the 2nd Saturday of each month inside Stage West theatre, 821 W. Vickery in Fort Worth.
Join us for coffee and conversation at 10am, program at 10:30. Guest speakers are announced here, on our social media and in our email newsletter.
Join us Saturday, May 10 to hear legendary writer and fighter Katie Sherrod
When Katie Sherrod was eight, she wanted to be an altar boy. After being told it wasn’t allowed in the Catholic church, she set her sights on becoming a journalist and change maker, challenging her curious, stubborn and “stupidly” courageous outlook on life.
Today she is an award-winning writer, producer and commentator whose career in print and broadcast journalism spans more than four decades. In 1983 Katie became the first woman to write an opinion column at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram — which soon became the paper’s most popular column.
A longtime advocate for women’s reproductive freedom, Katie’s coverage of family violence issues has garnered numerous awards. She was inducted into the Texas Woman’s Hall of Fame in 1987 for outstanding contributions in communications, named one of Fort Worth’s Outstanding Women in 1988, and has received a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to Princeton University.
The Texas Women’s Political Caucus awarded Katie their Chrysalis Award twice and honored her as Texas Woman of the Year in 1989. Katie was the editor and a contributor to the book Grace and Gumption: Stories of Fort Worth Women.
Katie can still be found making “good trouble.” She was a featured presenter at TCDWC's 90th anniversary gala in 2018, and we are thrilled to have her as a guest again!
